Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Channelry is a video player made by Surge Studio LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the Channelry app and this website handle, where it goes, and the choices you have. The short version: what you put into the app stays on your device. We keep only what's needed to make purchases and family codes work, and we don't sell or share information for advertising.
What Channelry is
Channelry doesn't include any channels, movies or series. You add your own provider or your own media. There are no ads and no analytics or tracking tools in the app or on this website.
What stays on your device
Everything you set up stays on your device and is never sent to us: your providers and their logins, profiles, favourites and lists, viewing history and progress, reminders, settings, and any keys you enter (for example a TMDB or OpenSubtitles key).
- On phones and TVs, logins and keys are stored encrypted, using the device's own secure storage (Android Keystore or iOS Keychain).
- If the app has an error, a note of it stays on your device. It's only included in a problem report if you choose to send one.
- A backup is a file you make and keep. It's encrypted with your passphrase, and you can leave provider logins out of it. If you keep backups in Google Drive, they're encrypted before they leave your device, and the app can only see the files it creates.
- The Guest profile keeps no history.
Where the app connects
The app connects only to services you set up or switch on:
- Your providers, and any TV guides you add.
- TMDB for posters and details, with your own key.
- Trakt, only if you sign in.
- Google Drive, only if you sign in to keep backups there.
- OpenSubtitles, with your own key.
- TheIntroDB for intro times, when switched on.
- TVmaze, when you fix a series' details.
- Apple's podcast directory, for Podcasts.
- Community TV guides on GitHub, only the ones you switch on.
- YouTube, for trailers.
- Plex, only if you sign in to Plex.
- Your own media servers and network shares, only the ones you add.
- Expo, which delivers app updates.
- Your device's own speech service, when you search by voice.
- Public test streams, only for the built-in demo, if you add it.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy.
Channelry's own services
We run a few small services on Cloudflare. None of them ever carries video.
Licensing (purchases and family codes)
To check that Channelry Pro has been bought, or that a family code is valid, the app talks to our licensing service. It keeps:
- a device identifier that the operating system gives Channelry (on Android, the app's Android ID), and the public half of a key the app creates in your device's secure storage;
- your device's model name (for example "SHIELD Android TV"), so you can tell your devices apart;
- for purchases: the purchase receipt from the app store, which we check with that store;
- for family codes: the code, who it was made for (as written by the person who made it), and when it was used;
- when the device last checked in, and the count of free previews used on the device, so the free preview limit works.
We use this only to provide Pro, family codes and the free preview, and to stop one purchase or code being shared beyond its limits. We keep it while the purchase or code is active, and delete it within 12 months after it ends or on request.
Setting up a TV from a phone
When you set up a device from your phone, the setup passes through our pairing relay, encrypted with a key only your two devices have. The relay can't read it and deletes it within 10 minutes. On the same home network, nothing leaves your network.
Feedback and crash reports
If you choose Send feedback, the app sends what you write together with technical details: where you are in the app, your device type and system version, the app version, how many providers and titles you have (never their names, logins or addresses), and recent errors. You can see all of it before sending. Send crash reports automatically is off until you turn it on. Reports go to a private issue tracker that only the developer can read. A random identifier made on your device groups one device's reports; it isn't linked to anything else.
Purchases
Payments are handled by the app store you buy from (Google Play, the Amazon Appstore, or the Apple App Store). We never see your card or payment details. The store shares a purchase receipt with us so we can unlock Pro.
Problem reports
Problem reports are only sent when you send one, through your own share sheet or email. Logins, passwords, tokens and keys are removed first.
This website
channelry.app uses no cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other websites. Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes the technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, to deliver the page and protect it from abuse.
Deleting your information
- In the app: Settings → Help and privacy → Erase everything removes everything from the device. Uninstalling the app does the same.
- Licensing records and feedback: email support@channelry.app and we'll delete what we hold about your devices, usually within 30 days. Deleting licensing records ends Pro on those devices; you can restore a purchase later through your app store.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your information, or to object to how it's used. Email us to make a request. We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
Children
Channelry isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. Kids profiles and the parental PIN are tools for parents. The adult content filters work from providers' own names and categories, so they can miss things.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
